Description

native american style bass flute single chamber 7 Hole in the Key of G with wood or stone inlay

This is a 7 hole Extended Scale bass flute with the seventh hole being the thumb hole on the back of the flute. To play the flute as a standard 6 hole configuration, the thumb hole is kept closed or covered.

The side-blown design allows the player to comfortably reach the holes. This otherwise advanced flutes, due to its size, can now be played by intermediate skill player and those with shorter arm reach. Please do still verify the playing hole spacing.

This particular flute is made for the “left hand on the bottom” player and can be made to order for the “right hand on the bottom” player as well.

Materials:

Flute body is made of Alaskan Yellow Cedar wood and the accents are of Sapele wood. Flute is finished with hand rubbed polyurethane and the inside of the sound chamber is left unsealed to preserve the natural resonance of wood. Alaskan Yellow Cedar is a soft wood and is prized for its tonal quality. Having very tight growth rings as it is the slowest growing wood in the USA, it is used for guitar tops. It produces deep, warm, haunting yet clear tone.

*Note on Alaskan Cedar – due to lack of access to Alaskan Cedar wood from my lumber yard suppliers, the closest alternative in sound, density and weight is Obeche (Ayous) wood, which I would use to build this flute.

Dimensions:

What does it mean when the flute is built to order:

When the flute is on Built to Order it simply means just that – I would have to build it for you. You can place your order as you would with the regular purchase, the only difference is that it would take me from 2-3 or 3-4 weeks to finish it and mail it to you, depending on the load of present orders. If you don’t mind waiting I would love to recreate the flute for you. If you would rather have a custom flute or certain modifications added to the flute in this listing, instead you are welcome to fill out an Order a Custom Flute form.

I will do my best to recreate the flute, depending on wood availability from my supplier and my “Cutoff Box” which is where I keep pieces of wood from other flute projects to add accents to new flute orders. If the wood of your choice for the accents is not available, I will let you know and suggest closest replacement in look and feel, to complement the overall look and color palette of the flute.
