Native American Style Flute 7 Hole Bass in the Key of G

This is a 7 hole Extended Scale drone with the seventh hole being the thumb hole on the back of the flute. To play the flute as a standard 6 hole configuration, keep the thumb hole covered.

The side-blown design allows the player to comfortably reach the holes. This otherwise advanced flute, due to its size, can now be played by intermediate skill player and those with shorter arm reach.

The playing holes of this flute are offset for the right-hand bellow the left hand flute player.

Materials:

Flute body is made of Alaskan Yellow Cedar wood and the accents are of Sapele wood. Alaskan Yellow Cedar is the hardest of the cedars and is prized for its tonal quality. Having very tight growth rings as it is the slowest growing wood in the Northern USA, it is used for guitar tops. It produces deep, warm, haunting yet clear tone.

Finish choices are: Polyurethane or Rubio Monocoat oil which is a true state-of-the-art oil thanks to its revolutionary binder. I have found Rubio Monocoat to be amazing at protecting the flutes as it forms a molecular bond with the wood fibers – this product is absolutely safe for the human body.

– From mouth end to the center of 7th hole – 6 1/2 inches

– From mouth end to the center of 1st hole – 16 1/2 inches

– Largest distance between playing holes (hole 3 to 2) is 1 and 5/8th inches

– Largest playing hole diameter is 5/16th of an inch

Flute can be  tuned to 440Hz or 432Hz

When the flute is on Backorder it simply means that I would have to build it for you. Or that I have a blank flute available in the listed key and of the same or similar materials already. You can place your order as you would with the regular purchase, the only difference is that it would take me from 2-3 or 3-4 weeks to finish it and mail it to you, depending on the load of present orders. If you don’t mind waiting I would love to recreate the flute for you. In this case please do send me an email and we will discuss the details.

I will do my best to recreate the flute, depending on wood availability from my supplier and my “Cutoff Box” which is where I keep pieces of wood from other flute projects to add accents to new flute orders. If the wood of your choice for the accents is not available, I will let you know and suggest closest replacement in look and feel, to complement the overall look and colour palette of the flute.
